Dance Be Happy: Uniting Cultures, Empowering Communities

We are excited to introduce you to an incredibly special initiative known as "Dance Be Happy". This music-driven project, an inspiration birthed out of the vibrant culture of the Batwa community in Uganda, is set to make waves in more ways than one. Take a glimpse into the heart of this project by watching our video here: Dance Be Happy - YouTube.

"Dance Be Happy" is a joint venture, lovingly managed by Climate Actions Now in collaboration with musical maestros Giles et Diego. The stars of the show, however, are the Batwa themselves. Known as the original inhabitants of the rainforests, the Batwa have led lives inextricably tied to nature, as gatherers and hunters, for over half a million years.

In 1991, their lives took a drastic turn when the forest was declared a national park and world heritage site to safeguard the endangered mountain gorillas. The Batwa had to move. Their traditional skills were deemed obsolete in a rapidly modernizing world, leading them into a challenging existence marked by poverty and hardship.

The Batwa community now faces difficult times and are often marginalized by the government and their society. Their fundamental rights as indigenous people are overlooked, with limited access to basic necessities such as education, health care, and land. Their voices are often drowned out in decision-making processes affecting their livelihoods.

"Dance Be Happy" is not merely a project, it's a rallying call. It's an endeavor to celebrate and elevate the Batwa community, to bring their vibrant culture to the fore via music and dance. Beyond this, the project serves to raise awareness and financial support for the urgent needs of the Batwa community.

At its core, the project believes in the transformative power of music and dance, as instruments of social change and proponents of human dignity. Supporting "Dance Be Happy" doesn't just contribute to the preservation of the Batwa's culture; it also lays a foundation for similar communities facing existential threats.
